Hi,
Animal cruelty cases keep happening, and brought increasing public concern in Hong Kong. The rights of animals as well as their carers have taken on new importance among political parties and their members. The coming Wednesday (16 Jan 2008), LEGCO members are going to debate on a motion that proposes a series of policy changes aimed at bettering the rights of animal and of their carers.
This is an important milestone in Hong Kong ’s animal rights movement. We would not have come this far without the painstaking efforts of all who have contributed to this movement. Nonetheless, we are still at the infancy of this battle for justice. Success requires everyone’s continued and actioned support.
I appeal to you to express your support for the motion by showing up at the LEGCO Building, at the main entrance from 10:00am to 11:00am (the time around which LEGCO Members proceed to their meeting) to speak your voice on animal rights to the Government. [ You may also attend the meeting as observer ]
Detail of the motion for debates can be found in LEGCO website, at:

Sara

"An eye-opening film...visually stunning... this movie will change the way you see our oceans."
- Bonnie Laufer, Tribute Magazine
For filmmaker Rob Stewart, exploring sharks began as an underwater adventure. What it turned into was a beautiful and dangerous life journey into the balance of life on earth.
Driven by passion fed from a lifelong fascination with sharks, Stewart debunks historical stereotypes and media depictions of sharks as bloodthirsty, man-eating monsters and reveals the reality of sharks as pillars in the evolution of the seas.
Filmed in visually stunning, high definition video, Sharkwater takes you into the most shark rich waters of the world, exposing the exploitation and corruption surrounding the world's shark populations in the marine reserves of Cocos Island, Costa Rica and the Galapagos Islands, Ecuador.
In an effort to protect sharks, Stewart teams up with renegade conservationist Paul Watson of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. Their unbelievable adventure together starts with a battle between the Sea Shepherd and shark poachers in Guatemala, resulting in pirate boat rammings, gunboat chases, mafia espionage, corrupt court systems and attempted murder charges, forcing them to flee for their lives.
Through it all, Stewart discovers these magnificent creatures have gone from predator to prey, and how despite surviving the earth's history of mass extinctions, they could easily be wiped out within a few years due to human greed.
Stewart's remarkable journey of courage and determination changes from a mission to save the world's sharks, into a fight for his life, and that of humankind.

Dear Mr Leung
Thank you for your e-mail to our Chairman Mr James Tien, sharing with us your suggestions for promoting Hong Kong’s marine and natural resources, in particular diving, snorkelling and other water sports. We are grateful for your recommendation on how we may further enhance Hong Kong’s appeal to visitors. In our effort to promote Hong Kong as a premier travel destination, we have been actively leveraging Hong Kong’s advantages and building on our city’s strengths that no other destination can replicate. For instance, we have been running the Nature Kaleidoscope programme since the beginning of this year to help visitors explore the lesser-known treasures of Hong Kong’s countryside. We will continue to promote Hong Kong’s diverse range of outdoor activities, including diving and other water sports, such as arranging overseas media to participate in the activities through familiarisation visits. In addition, we have been publicising Hong Kong’s marine and natural attractions through our various communication channels, including our DiscoverHongKong.com website and visitor literature. Please trust that we will continue to explore new ways of promoting Hong Kong’s diverse facets to cater for the interests and tastes of visitors from different markets. Once again, thank you for taking the time to share with us your views.
Yours sincerely
